You call it patience.

You call it being realistic.

You call it their luck.

You call it a life.

Aceeducation

It is fear. You know it is.

It is the smallest room you could find, and you decorated it.

It is practice. Theirs. It was always available to you.

It is a waiting room. Stand up.

A school for becoming the one who solves anything. It will not be kind to you. It will be honest, which you have had less of.

What you tell them

I'm fine where I am.

It's not the right time.

Some people are just lucky.

I could have, if I'd wanted to.

What I see

You check their lives at night and close the tab fast, as if someone were watching. Someone is. It is you.

There has never been a right time. There has only been you, waiting for a permission slip nobody is going to sign.

Bullshit. You say it the way a man describes a door he never tried.

That sentence is the most expensive thing you own. It bills you every year, and you keep paying.

You are not mediocre. You are hiding. There is a difference, and it is the only thing I teach.

Without it

You have a problem you have carried for years. You call it a situation, so you never have to call it yours.

Solve anything.

Every problem is a locked room, and you have spent your life knocking. I will teach you to stop knocking. Every room has a hinge, and the people inside never look at it, because they were told the door was the only way in.

You will learn to read a problem whole before you touch it. To rank every way in by what it costs and who holds the key. To make one clean move, then the next, until the room is open and nobody remembers it was ever shut.

You will become the one they call when the door is gone.

Without it

You have lived your whole life inside one postcode of the mind. You call it home.

Move through space.

Any border.

Any market.

Any room, within the hour.

Borders are for people who believe in them. Markets are rooms. Languages are keys you were too proud to copy. An Ace lands, learns the rules by Thursday, and is setting them by the end of the month. The world is not large. It only looks that way from where you are standing.

Without it

You are always early to the wrong thing and late to the right one. You call it bad timing.

Move through time.

Patience is not waiting. Waiting is what you do. Patience is seeing the window before it opens, standing in front of it, and refusing to move while everyone else runs past. Then stepping through on the second it opens. Not a day before. Never after.

You will learn to read where a situation will be in a month and to be standing there already.

Time is a door. It opens for the people who are at it.

Without it

You have been solving the problem they gave you. Precisely as told. Precisely as they wanted.

Break the dimension.

The frame you were handed is the trap. Most problems are impossible exactly as stated, and they were stated by someone who needed them to stay that way. Change the question. Change the level. Change who is at the table.

The wall was a drawing of a wall.

The impossible is a problem that has not met you yet.

Without it

You think luck is something that happens to other people. You are right. It happens to people who arrange it.

Always have luck.

Luck is a practice, and you have never practised. You prayed, which is practice for nothing. More rooms. More doors held open. Yes to the right strangers and no to the comfortable ones. Prepared before the chance, every single time, so that when it comes it looks like an accident to everyone but you.

An Ace is lucky because an Ace has done the work luck requires. You will stop waiting for it. You will start arranging it.

Pick it up. It moves when you do. That is the whole lesson, and most people never touch the card.
